Craig Smith, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for North West Leicestershire has met with a senior executive on a major national bank to stress the importance of collaborative working to ensure banks remain on high streets around in North West Leicestershire.
Craig travelled to London to meet with Sebastian Burnside , chief economist at NatWest Bank to reiterate the need for banking hubs in towns and larger villages around the constituency.
Craig said “Since I was selected as parliamentary candidate, I’ve been highlighting the need for banking hubs in North West Leicestershire, pooled centres where banks can work together to ensure they provide essential facilities but also offer the more complex services all of us need from them from time to time.
“We all know there have been bank branch closures around the constituency due to a huge reduction in footfall, but for many face to face banking is still hugely important. Part of my mission is to speak with all of the banks directly to put the case forward for collaborative working.
“I was pleased to see Sir Keir Starmer’s candidate from Cleethorpes getting on board my campaign and speaking with her own shadow junior minister, it’s important that politicians of all political colours are signed up, and I welcome that. But what Labour doesn’t understand is that it’s impossible to regulate a commercial banking decision, that’s why meeting bank executives who decide where to put banking hubs, is a hugely important step to take.”
